this is 1 in of a series called "pattern recognition:creativity or insanity."
pattern recognition is part of how a person perceives the world around them. it's natural to find patterns all over, some made with the intent of being recognized and some common naturally occurring patterns that most people recognize in passing. one end of the disease is the mental illness Pareidolia , is a glitch in the mind that causes some people to see patterns in profusion and find what they see has a very powerful effect on them. people that suffer from this recognize patterns everywhere. this is the explanation for conspiracy theorists, people who have religous visions or see jesus in the clouds, etc. this can be interpreted as a good thing, i think it is the root of creativity. i think that abstract artists are especially prone to finding patterns in their work and viewers can find patterns that give the art the ability to see many things in an abstract work and the things that they recognize are quite different from person to person. the other end of the spectrum is paranoid schizophrenia.
i am exploring this in a small series. i took 's very abstract line art "sonic touch"
[link] tried to find many different patterns in it. i made 5 different versions. i also tried to make them look psychedelic--makes sense, right? one interesting thing is that there is a pattern in the line art that is quite obvious if you look at it carefully. i did my best to avoid making the hand show. glutton for punishment, LOL.
pattern recognition is familiar to most people because of the film "A Beautiful Mind." [link]
thanks so much! i'm the idea woman! lol! i think a lot and then i have all these things to talk about, but i'm at home alone all day, with my dog of course, but i don't speak dog and he doesn't speak english, but we get alone well with body language. hahahha! anyway, it's like the drawing is a bunch of thoughts put together like a puzzle and then it's too abstract to say anything to anyone, so i put those long explanations. i'm glad to know someone is enjoying them!
oh, btw, i'll send you a link to that line art, i think i know where it is.
hi! i'm afraid i have to go back on what i said--i can't find it anywhere. first i went where i thought it would be and realized if it had been there, you would have found it already! finally i realized that a couple of weeks ago i did a major clean up of my gallery and deleted it. (i was so amazed that that was the one you made that awesome finished collab with because i always thought it was butt ugly (LOL) and kept meaning to remove it. so i did. but i never ever ever delete artwork from my computer, so i've been searching for soo long, not only because you want it but now it's a challenge! i KNOW it's in there somewhere! i have no idea what it was called...i went so far as to search my whole documents directory with the work "black"!!! you can imagine how long it took to look through those, even at great speed only looking at thumbs. i'm not giving up yet, but it looks pretty grim. sorry! you weren't going mad at all, i was/still am!
i have some memory issues (psych drugs), so i'm not sure if we've talked about this, but i know you're speaking british english...where do you live? my father and stepmother live in hove half the year. my father did an exchange program with the UEA when i was a teenager, so we lived in norwich for quite awhile and then he met my stepmother, who is british, and they feel in love and have been married since. they split their time btwn the states and the uk, since neither wants to give up their citizenship. sorry, ramble ramble...at any rate, the uk is a second home to me, my step sisters live in glasgow and dublin. so i was just curious where you lived...
maybe someday i will find that partial, lol! i'm gonna end up looking through every file on my computer, or better still, we run automatic nightly backups of everything (my husband is a software engineer--who else would do that??) so it's somewhere in this room, someway somehow...you never know! lol!
No problem I`ve now put your icon in description box anywhen, glad you liked the result. I`ll let you know which one I`ve printed off next time, amazed I moved it after rpinting I don`t normally! I too have memory issues anyway (with or without my psych drugs) so I did wonder. I have DID so kinda know what bipolar is like - the manic lows and highs are interesting to live with eh, more through really.
I live in Thetford about 30 miles from UEA at Norwich, my daughter lives there so visit regularly. Automatic backups sound an awesome idea - way more organised than I am. My husband doesn`t do anything unless its metal-work related
thanks so much! it's very gratifying to hear that the line work is good, six months ago it looked like a 2 year old did it (har har) and then i decided i really really wanted to be able to do it well, so over the course of a few weeks i practiced all the time. i have a big sketchbook with nothing but line work in it. lol! i was afraid my husband would come home and see it and think i was like jack nicholson in the shining! hahha
