i am hosting a contest in conjunction with
but open to the entire community of watercolor painters. you don't have to be a member of the group!
(but it would be neat if you decided to join!)

autumn is in full swing. nights are getting chillier. it descends on us like a warm blanket.

i challenge you to paint....

the atmosphere of a warm blanket
interpret that as you desire.

you may create your entry with
*watercolor paints, *watercolor pans, or *watercolor pencils.

ANY DEVIANT MAY PARTICIPATE!!!
you don't have to be a member of Abstract-Watercolor
but keep in mind that contest submissions
must must be both abstract and created using
watercolors.

three judges will choose the winners.
 

you have one month to create your painting.
the contest starts today, Wednesday November 5, 2014
and runs until Friday  December 5, 2014 at 11:00 am pacific time.

all submissions must be created specifically for this contest.
i will check dates! one entry per person.

each of three winners, in no particular order,
wins 200 points and a feature on the group's page,
as well as on the judge's personal pages.
all three judges will paint a token entry.

the Secret Garden Contest at  has ended and judging is going on now. 

i am starting a new open collaboration project. there are a few people who have completed collaborations already. 

take my drawing as a beginning piece...


and complete it anyway you want. any medium, any skill level, anybody who wants to have fun!

When you open the gate to your own Secret Swirly Garden, what do you see? What kind of vines twist around the rusty fence and what sort of spells or swirling haze fills the space between the dreaming flowers? Imagine the perfect refuge from the world, a secret spot you can disappear to, a place filled with profuse greenery or other natural forces that bring you to a meditative state, that is both comforting and inspiring.

All mediums except literature, photography and fractal art are allowed. Crafts are also okay, if they convey the idea of a garden. All submissions must also follow general gallery guidelines (see below).

The submission must be swirly. More swirls means better chances of winning.

The submission must have been created for the contest.

You don't need to be a member of the Swirly Artists to join.

The deadline is April 13th, after which a jury of three will vote for the winners.

The submission must follow gallery guidelines: 

Visual art containing both flowing movement and swirly lines. (Twisted, curly; wavy and flowing.) Syntheses of expressive and realistic elements are encouraged, but purely abstract designs are also well appreciated.  

All visual medias allowed, except for fractal art and light painting. Heavily mirrored work is alright, if you can still make out the shapes in the original drawing from which it has been generated.

No rough sketches. Linework is all right if it looks clear.

No single-line flurries of swirls as the main "swirly" part.

No blurred/stained/overexposed/shadowy/pixelated photographs or scans, or huge watermarks.

No work drawn on checkered or lined paper.

Please crop the borders of scanned/photographed pieces so the rims of the work are not visible. (Does not apply to handicraft.)
